Such a sad start to the New Year for a young man with his whole life ahead of him. Regardless of the details surrounding his untimely death, this is a time to share our sympathies with his families, friends and teammates of the NFL and Denver Broncos.

    Rest in peace.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the whole
broncos franchise, but mostly to his family. It has to be so hard for the
players to go into the offseason losing such a close friend and very great
player, like Darrent. I cant imagine what his family is going through, and what
a terrible way for them to start their new year! I hope that they are able
recover from this terrible tragedy, and look back and see all the lives that
Darrent has touched. We will never forget you #27 and we will miss you terribly!

    Rest
    In
    Peace

I was so very saddened when I heard the news this morning. I am still in shock. He was so young and had a great career ahead of him. I feel for his family as I am a mother and a Gradmmother also. My prayers and thoughts are with his mom. I just wanted to let you know you raised a great and talented young man. We will miss him. But I know this means so much more for you.

What a sad day in the sports world, the Denver Broncs, and Darrent Williams’ family. As a fan, I saw Darrent as a young and promising player. His enthusiasm and youth provided a spark to the Broncos.

I am truely saddened by this terrible tragedy. It was a senseless act that should have never happened. Our faith in God will help us through all of this and Darrent is now by the right hand of our father.

He will be missed as a player and a person. I have all his family and friends in my prayers.

I would say RIP, But you won’t have time. You will be to busy with our lord Jesus Christ to rest. Seriously Forget about football, You looked like a great kid with a bright future and its obvious you touched thounsands and thousands of lives…Something so few of us never get to do. I’m sure you mother was very proud. YOU WILL BE MISSED!

This story just makes me sick, from how it happened to the 2 poor little girls who because of a senseless act don’t have a dad anymore. My heart goes out to Williams’ family and everyone affected by this terrible crime.
    Let’s hope justice will prevail.

Started off yesterday spraining my ankle in soccer and finished the game with a goal and two assists. We lost 4-7.

    Then Broncos lost 26-23.

None of that mattered. None of it came close to this morning.

I wake up. In my head I say “I wonder if people are still being negative on the boards.”

I don’t log on yet, instead I check ESPN. Commercials. Then I go up one channel to ESPN2…. that’s when I saw it. I look at the bottom right corner. “Breaking News: Darrent Williams Broncos CB Shot, Killed” Heart skips a beat. Try to keep my composer and not begin to tear. I hobble down stairs ignoring the pain in my ankle. Tell my brother about it. He is now in shock. He switches to ESPN2. Goes upstairs to get dressed. Shuts the door. I open it and he is laying down on the bed crying.

I take my shower and then my eyes get teary. We go out to eat for breakfast and me and my brother are very down and we speak of splitting the cost in half for a Darrent Williams jersey. We will buy it and get overnight shipping.

It is so sad. Since I am Muslim I pray 5 times a day and this morning I dedicated my prayer to Darrent Williams and his family.

    This is devastating.

Then I listen to Tatum Bell’s interview and it was so sad. Now I am listening to 950 The Fan online.

    Very emotional.

    R.I.P. DARRENT WILLIAMS

I will miss you. You had so much future talent. I don’t know what could be more sickening. I hope the Williams family sees this message.

You ALWAYS kept your head high. The other QB’s of teams picked on you because you were opposite Champ Bailey but you never gave up. You always stayed positive and told your team to keep on going.

It was hurtful to hear about how happy of your boy you were.

R.I.P. Darrent. We will all miss you.

#27 – DW My thoughts and prayers go out to your mother, family, and close friends – A tragic uneccesary way for a very very talented young man to lose his life – As a long time Bronco fan it was a thrill for me to watch you and Champ out there – Many of us fans had great expectations from you and you were living up to them – You played with all your heart and gave your all to the Orange n Blue – THANK YOU – your time with us was short but THANK YOU – I also know that many of us in Oklahoma are very saddened by your loss.

I just feel so bad for your family, your mom esp (being a mom myself I couldnt imagine having to lose a child) for what they’ve been through in the past 24 hours – I know there isnt much as fans we can do but let your family know we truly loved you as a player and a person – some of us were fortunate enough to meet you – some of us weren’t but I consider the Broncos a family and I’ve taken this loss hard – I feel like a member of my family has been taken away from me needlessly, tragically and sensely. I hope younger men – even if its just one can learn from your loss.

I hope and pray justice prevails and his murderer is caught and punished to the fullest extent of the law – And when he goes to jail – I hope he gets what he deserves

I was in total shock this morning when I heard a Broncos CB had been murdered in a driveby shooting. My first thought went immediately to Champ Bailey and I thought no way. Then I clicked the link and in the link address I noticed it said Williams in the link and then I thought ok let this be some old player not a current one. Being in dial up hell it took a bit to load and finally I saw Darrent’s picture in the story and I just felt sick. Who can murder someone on New Year’s Eve? A day when we all think about what the next year is going to hold. A day for many NFL’s to think of what things they will do in the off season awaiting the next season. Many probably think about vacations or playing gold etc. Darrent planned to attend speaking events and spend time with his own family. I admire the things he intended to do and at the same time am saddened that he will not be able to do them himself, but my hope is that someone will pick up where he left off and continue completeing Darrent’s vision. May God be with Darrent at this time and also may he comfort the family and the Bronco’s organization and any friends or fans he may have touched in his short time as an NFL star. Darrent was definately Pro Bowl material. Rest In Peace Darrent.

  14. 14 Dustin Jan 1st, 2007 at 5:40 pm

First, to Darrent’s family go my deepest and most heart felt condolences. My prayers and thoughts are with you. I am so sorry for your loss. I know how proud of him you must be for all he did on and off the field. He is a man we should all take a lesson in life from.

This is not only a terrible loss to a family, but to a team, and a city as well. He will be sorely missed. He was on his way to becoming a great CB, but was already a great man.

Good night D Will. RIP and God bless.

  15. 15 Ian Jan 1st, 2007 at 5:47 pm

This is so tragic, he had such a bright future ahead of him, he had this amazing ability to frustrate his fans with his punt returns and then later on bring a smile to their faces with a pick-6. Darrent was a great man and a man we all respected. My condolences to his family and to the team as a whole. Rest in Peace.

    God Bless,

    Ian

I really don’t know what I can say to help ease the pain for you guys as fans and for Darrents friends, teammates, family or the whole Broncos organization. Just know that you have an group of Titans fans here in Tennessee and elsewhere that are thinking about you all today. Just know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Football is more than a sport..it brings us all together and in tragedy it’s fans can help one another get through whatever they’re facing. I don’t know much about your AWESOME Bronco but the way you all love him…He must be VERY special!!! Again many thoughts and prayers goin up for each of you!!! Hang in there!!!*HUGZ* all around!!!

I’m heartbroken and can’t even imagine the heartbreak of his family or the team (especially those who were with him last night.) My prayers and thoughts are with every one of them.

This is such a terrible beginning to the New Year! My deepest sympathies go out to the family of Darrent, the Broncos Organization and to Bronco fans all over. We will miss you #27.

I hope that justice will be quick and severe!!! I’m a young father, and me leaving my wife and children is my worst fear. I prayed for him and his family the second I found out. My dad was killed in 2005 in a motorcyle wreck because someone else wanted to pass him on a blind curve. Losing my dad was very hard, but even harder was seeing my grandparents having to bury their child. Parents are supposed to go before their children do. From everyone here in Alabama, our prayers are with his friends and family, especially his mother. Broncos 4 Life!

  20. 20 Anthony Jan 1st, 2007 at 6:05 pm

  21. 21 Mac Jan 1st, 2007 at 6:19 pm

I am proud to have seen you play and I will cherish that memory. Your time came too soon. I will keep your family in my prayers and pray for the day when we have peace.

  22. 22 Shannon Jan 1st, 2007 at 6:36 pm

I am shocked and saddened by the shooting and death of Darrent Williams. He was a great football player and even better person. He was a little guy that proved that size doesn’t matter if you play with heart and desire. I will miss his beautiful smile and cute little laugh. My thoughts and prayers are with the Broncos and Darrent’s family. May god give you strength and courage for the hard days ahead.
It is truly a sad day here in Denver. There is a huge hole in the hearts of Denver Broncos fans today and forever.

RIP #27- You are now blessing everyone in heaven with your beautiful smile! You will forever be loved and missed!

  23. 23 Trevor Jan 1st, 2007 at 7:12 pm

Darrent, I only knew you as a football player, but I’ll always remember you intercepting and returning touchdowns – especially the one against the Raiders while my brother and I screamed and cheered for you.

You were only 24, eons away from your prime, but already one of the best in the league. The talent someone stole from the world today will never be realized.

  24. 24 Danny Jan 1st, 2007 at 7:16 pm

When i first learned of Darrent’s death it all seemed so surreal, 24 years old … 24! He was a role model that i myself, and i know many others could aspire to. He had a certain flare for life and i KNOW that if Darrent could read all the support his great fans have given him then he would erupt into his trademark cheeky smile. My heart goes out to his family and friends and i really do offer you my sincerest apologies for your tragic loss.

I’m so lucky to have seen you play and judging by the amount of tributes i have seen left to you by others today, i’m not the only one.

Rip Darrent, Now go tear it up in heaven!! God bless…

  25. 25 Tecia Jan 1st, 2007 at 7:45 pm

My thoughts and prayers go out to not only the family of Darrent Williams, but to the fans and Denver Broncos organization. I hope that you are able to lean on each other to get through this difficult time. In time, the lessons that we are to learn from this tragedy will be unveiled as God intends.

  26. 26 margie Jan 1st, 2007 at 8:02 pm

My husband and I travel full time in our motor home and were able to watch the final Bronco game of the season, which isn’t always possible depending on where in the US we are. We were of course disappointed with the outcome of the game with the 49′ers, but we Bronco fans know “there’s always next year”!
But nothing could compare with our shock to awake this morning to one of the top AOL stories about Darrent Williams senseless murder. He has been a real bright spot on the team, and gave us reason to cheer again! I believe there’s football in heaven, and they just got a gr8 cornerback!

  27. 27 Jamie Jan 1st, 2007 at 8:10 pm

I’d just like to express my sadness at hearing of the death Of Darrent Williams, it is truly a tradegy and a senseless waste of a young life, of a player that had the potential and ability to become a legend. My sympathies go to the Williams family and friends, and his Broncos team-mates, I offer them my prayers at this time. I have no doubt thte coward who took away this life will be caught, and punished to the full extent of your law. R.I.P.

  28. 28 Kaiyla Jan 1st, 2007 at 8:15 pm

Darrent -Williams such a promising future. Just in the wee of the morning a selfish human being had to take all that away from a promising player. I pray that the Williams Family understand God is Good! Our Savior will Bless your Family and be with you through these tough times. All i can say is watching Darrent play against my brother whom plays for the NfL, our family could always see that he was a team player and when there was a touch down Darrent stating ” nice play” to the other team and walking off the field.May God bless you Ms. Williams and the whole Williams family in all.

  31. 31 Dileep Rao Jan 1st, 2007 at 8:32 pm

Unbelieveable. Here was a young man, in the prime of his life, growing into a terrific player and was, by all accounts, a good person. He played his heart out and gave so much to the team. I loved to watch him play; he was growing into one of the finer cornerbacks the team has ever had. This senseless act, to take a life in macho theatrics is so incomprehensible. What altercation could have necessitated this? Can we at last have a national conversation about violence?

So very sad. My thoughts are with his family. Football is just football, this young man had so much living left to do.

  32. 32 phycha62 Jan 1st, 2007 at 8:35 pm

Being an avid Bronco fan for many years, I have seen many players come and go. Imagine the shock at hearing how #27 Darrent Williams left OUR team. I feel so much sadness for the family, friends and our beloved Bronco team. Please remember through the coming days, weeks, and months that all will be in my thoughts and my prayers. Today was such a sad day indeed, to have such a young life ended in such a horrible way on a day when we should be looking ahead, and all we can do right now is look back. Whoever did this can not be allowed to break our beloved Broncos heart and spirit. Please know we stand behind you all and we love you, and you are all in our prayers as we say goodbye to a tremendous player, friend, father, son, and whatever else d-will stood for in our lives.

  33. 33 TP Jan 1st, 2007 at 8:35 pm

RIP Darrent Williams, you will be a Bronco and part of Denver forever!!! I hope were ever you are you are happy and still being the same great person and player you are. I hope and wish the Broncos will retire you number, you wore it proud and great. My best wishes to the family and friends of Darrent Williams. RIP Darrent!

    R.I.P. Darrent Williams 1982-2007.

First off I’d like to say that my thoughts and prayers go out to his family. It’s hard to see someone go out like that at 24! I can’t imagine what his family must be going through right now. Darrent was a great member of the Denver Broncos organization and his best years were yet to come. You will be missed Darrent Williams! Gone but never forgotten.

Tough hard nosed corner, had a great smile, a true nice guy. Its so sad on the football field, you lose a playoff game like that and its your last game and your gunned down, the NFL has to have some kind of security for these guys. Darrent is one of the reason champ bailey had a pro bowl year he was a damn good cover corner in his 2nd year and being only 5ft 8, quick speed, whoever fills his shoes has a lot of heart to fill. Bailey and the team got to do something for Darrent, they should retire his number and put it in the stadium, always remember Darrent.

  36. 36 Broncos_Baby!!! Jan 1st, 2007 at 9:21 pm

Thanks for all of the great and memorable moments you gave me throughout your career and life. You are my favorite player and it makes me unbelievably sad to know that you are gone. My thoughts and prairs go out to you and your family. Not often do you see a person that can light up a room and make anybody smile on the drop of a dime but you were just that. You will be missed by more people than you will ever know and i hope your in a better place now.

  37. 37 Josh Jan 1st, 2007 at 9:28 pm

To think this tragedy could happen on New Years is just unheard of. Darrent Williams would have been a HUGE star in the nfl. I am a bears fan, but whenever a player loses their life, that changes, i am now a broncos fan and a bears fan. Darrent has done so many good things in his life, in such a short time. It is a total shame what has happened to this great young man who had his whole life ahead of him. God Speed Darrent and to his family.

  38. 38 Rudolf B. Radna Jan 1st, 2007 at 9:33 pm

I am disgusted by this senseless death. There are no words in any language that can remove even the smallest part of the pain caused by this atrocity. It is truly sad that the killers who lurk among us are so heartless, so mindless, that they wilfully inflict this misery upon us all.

  39. 39 Diaz Jan 1st, 2007 at 9:37 pm

Rest in peace good buddy. Broncos country lost one of their best and brightest today. Your electrifying play and heartfelt determination will be greatly missed.

I believe I speak for all Denver Broncos fans when I say that Darrent Williams will surely be missed and loved in the Broncos community. This senseless and truly horrific loss has Denver and Broncos fans’ heartsick and angry.

Thank you for your great plays and your great attitude while wearing the orange, white, and blue. Thank you for two amazing seasons and for those that were surely to come.

    Rest In Peace,

    Your fan,

  45. 45 Zak Jan 1st, 2007 at 10:24 pm

    Darrent,

I was excited to see you explode in the pre-season of your rookie year. I was excited to see you excel as a starter. I loved your dedication, effort, and talent. To played so well opposite Champ, facing the best the opposing QBs could throw at you, and persevered — what a talent.

    You’ll always be a Bronco.

May your family find the strength and support to get through this, and may we find a way to stop such hatred and mindless violence in the future.

For such a little man (by football standards), you leave behind a huge hole on the field and in the world, and cast a long shadow.

  46. 46 Kyle Brown Jan 1st, 2007 at 10:26 pm

I’m not a Broncos fan infact I hate them (Chargers fan) but its very sad to see something like this happen. I have a lot of respect for him nobody every wants to see something like this happen espically to a 24 year old. His life really was too shot.

I wanted to offer my condolences to the Williams family, the Broncos family, and friends. I was reluctant to post because I did not know who this wonder man was until reading the story in the headlines on the internet. Despite my ignorance he touched me even in death. His story has totally consumed my entire first day of the New Year. We hear of this happening all the time but when a athlete of this caliber is swept away it has tremendous impact. It is with a heavy heart that I say I am so sorry I never got to see him play while he was alive. I have mourned the loss as if I knew him personally just from all the wonderful comments made in regards to this young soul.

MY PRAYER ARE WITH YOU…..GOD BLESS!!!!

This morning my husband came home from work and like he does after every Denver game he went to the Broncos website. I continued to start my day thinking what we were going to do today. My husband came in with a saddened look on his face and told me he had some bad news about the Broncos. He told me about Darrent and the tragedy that happened a few short hours ago. My heart felt like it went to my feet and I began to cry. All day today I have thought about Darrent, his mother and his two children. My heart hurts for you today. We loved watching Darrent play. He had an upbeat personalilty, strong determiniation to succeed and was always smiling. Darrent was original and I wish that I had the opportunity to meet him. He did the world good the time that he had on this earth. From all the stories and interviews I have read thru out the season about Darrent he had turned his life into something positive and that takes courage. He didn’t always think of himself. He was suppose to build a football camp and go back to Fort Worth and speak to some kids about gangs after the season was over. What a guy. A guy that I will miss seeing play. A star that wore the orange and blue with heart. I am sad by the loss of Darrent. I will miss you. Every Bronco fan will miss you. I am sorry that you had to leave us this way. You will always be remembered and loved. We all will continue to wear #27 with pride and love.

    Your fans,
    John and April

To start off I want to send my condolences to Darrent’s family and the Denver Broncos. I am a huge Broncos fan and when I first watched Darrent play I saw glimpses of his amazing talent I had real high hopes for him. And when he started I was really happy for him, when I watched him I knew he was special. Learning along Champ Bailey could only make him better and each year you could see his improvement and all the times i watched him he showed what an amazing player he could’ve been I guess now we’ll never know how good Darrent Williams will ever be.

R.I.P Darrent Williams you will truly be missed.

First off I’m a Chiefs fan. Darrent was quickly becoming one of the players in this league that I hated seeing on the other side of the ball. He was an up and coming CB with huge potential, not to mention a great punt returner. His death is a great loss for the Broncos and the NFL. On behalf of all Kansas City fans, may our prayers be with the Williams family and the Broncos during this difficult time.

I remember seeing Darrent for the first time as a sophmore at Oklahoma State. I knew he was going to be something special from the first time I saw him. Two years down the road the only thing that kept him out of the first round was the only thing he couldn’t train for, his 5′8″ size. Still he made it in the second round and jumped right into the starting job along side one the greats, Champ Bailey. I am not usually a Bronco’s fan but happened to catch some of the heart breaking Sunday lost that kicked them out of the playoffs. I had no idea it’d be the last time I’d see #27 with his full name printed on the back of his uniform. My prayers go out to his family and friends and the Bronco’s organization.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the Williams family from ALL NFL fans. I only hope they catch the senseless people responsible and give them proper justice. #27, you were a hell of a football player with a huge heart and an influence to everyone involved in your life. Godspeed.

  62. 62 Chris Costarelli Jan 2nd, 2007 at 12:28 am

Darrent Williams was not a superstar, he was not an elite football player, but to play professionally in any sport you need talent. Darrent Williams had talent, and not only that was becoming a good nfl player, and started to standout more, and started on a good football team, and had good statistics. He was in the prime of his life and had just turned 24. He had everything, talent, money, and fame, but just like that it was gone. Darrent Williams I respect you for the man you are and your talents on the field. You were a promising young star and I have the utmost respect for u. My thoughts and prayers are with your family, wife and children. Until we meet again…..I salute you.

  63. 63 d.A. Jan 2nd, 2007 at 12:30 am

You were a great influence for everyone. A person who willingly turn his life around, and chose to do good rather than bad. This is a lost not only to the Williams family, not only to the Broncos, family, not only to the NFL family, but everyone who had the pleasure of meeting you or watching you. Doing the right thing by walking away from an argument and yet this happens…

    Rest in peace Darrent.

I just want to say that I really enjoyed watching #27 for the Broncos play, and I although I didn’t know Darrent personally, I can tell that he was a good person. I will never understand why this happened, but I want to do what I can to make people understand that life is precious and we need to think before we react.

Darrent you were one of my favorite players on the broncos. My whole family are broncos fans and we all loved you. Even if I didn’t know you personally, I felt like I did. I was looking forward to seeing you become the next Champ Bailey, but life is cruel indeed. My best wishes to the Family. Darrent Williams I give you one last Mile High Salute. RIP #27

  66. 66 The Beginning Jan 2nd, 2007 at 1:32 am

Lets put aside our differences and recognize that we are all just human beings when you break it down… What happened to Darrent today should be a wake up call that NOBODY is safe from the evils of the world, and that your life flame can fizzle out when you least suspect it. Not even the top athletes in the world are an exception. Let us stop the pointless bickering about who is the best team, who said what about your weave, how many shoes you have, and lets just embrace each other in brotherhood/sisterhood…. We are a fragile species that can cease to exist at any time, so the less time we spend hating, the more time we will have to explore and grasp the beauty that this world has to offer….

My thoughts and my prayers are with the Williams family and the Bronco family as well.

    RIP Darrent

For someone like Darrent to go away so tragically is surely a sin. I believe God put us all on this Earth to do as much, and and excel as much as possible. In Darrents short life I beleive his goal was reached. Not only was he a great football player, but he was also a good person in general. He accomplished so much in so little years it only makes it sadder to see him go so young. He had alot of potential in his future, but for someone to cut his life short is a sin. The world has a way of balancing itself. The people who did this to Darrent will soon figure that out. The world is full of evil, that’s a known fact. I dom’t need to go on seeing as we all basically feel the same way. Nothing is sadder than a mother having to bury her own child. I never knew the saying “Only the Good Die Young” was a true statement, but now I know it is. God bless you Darrent and may God let the asshole who did this to you pay for it,

  68. 68 Rachel Jan 2nd, 2007 at 2:06 am

First I want to send out my deepest heartfelt sympathy to Mrs Rosalind Williams, Dee’s mother and his two children and the Broncos organization. I am very sorry about the loss of a very talented, good looking young man… God knows when we will expire and there is a reason for everything… this can bring comfort to this tragedy and because we know where his soul is, that takes away the sting of losing him, though it hurts forever. The Body is just a temporary shell for the soul lives on forever… Darrent you will be missed and loved forever… Rest In Peace.

I would like to send out my deepest condolences to the Williams Family, his friends, teammates, Javon, DJ, and all the others who were witness to this horrible trajedy and with him during his final moments of Darrent’s Life. Godspeed and Godbless you all.

  71. 71 Stephen Jan 2nd, 2007 at 3:01 am

I was in pure shock when I heard the news, just as everybody else. I suppose that’s because the players of the NFL are all people I look up to and try to emulate. So when someone leaves us in such a tragic fashion it leaves everyone speachless.

I just wanted to say that I have really admired the way he played football. Even though he played 2 seasons, he made great strides and became one of the top young cornerbacks in the game. Him and Champ Bailey were one of the top cornerback tandems in the NFL. And its such a tragedy that this happened.

Tupac Shakur said the good die young. And he’s definitely right. My heart goes out to him and his family. May he rest in peace.

  72. 72 Nema: #1 Raider Fan Jan 2nd, 2007 at 3:04 am

I am a Raiders fan and season-ticket holder and saw Darrent Williams make his first interception and then return it 80 yards for his first touchdown. I did not know him as an individual, but saw him play 2 games against my team in Oakland in person and two others on TV . He was a great young player that brought energy to the Broncos defense. As a Raider fan, his play and the rare fact that he had his full first and last name on the back of his jersey allowed me to easily identify him as he frustrated my team during his short career. As a football fan, I will remember the hair, the cornrow-fused mowhawk, that he would shake up and down, igniting his fans. He was the type of personality you want in the NFL, regardless of who he was playing for.

We often get caught-up in the heated rivalry that is the Raiders vs. Broncos, but this is a tragic loss for all football fans and really puts life in prospective. On behalf of the Raider Nation, my most sincere condolences and deepest sympathies to Darrent Williams’s 2 young children, mother and family. Also to the entire Broncos organization and Bronco Fans. This is just so sad and senseless.

It’s a shame violence, especially gun violence, rears its ugly head so often in our culture. More increasinly our professional athletes seem to get caught in the middle. Unlike other recently publicized incidents, Darrent did not seem to have done anything wrong, just enjoying his New Years Eve and the end of a great season for himself as a young NFL defensive back. He will be missed. May his senseless murder not be in vain and may #27 Rest In Peace.

Seeing a young man killed is never a nice thing, expecially when that person has made a big effort to get things in order. A great talent has been lost, not just in the football sense but in a human being sense.

I hope that the Broncos organization and it’s fans can forever remember Darrent Williams. He was a promising young player, and an exuberant personality on the field and off. I would personally like to give a final thanks to #27 for the great memories, and express my remorse at the fact that no more can be created.
I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the Williams family, and assure them that Darrent’s time with the Broncos will be held in the highest regard. As a fan, I would like to thank them for raising such a wonderful son and I can only hope that they might recover from such a tragic loss.

Cheers to Dee.. he fought and overcame and smiled through it.
He had two beautiful girls,an amazing mother and family.
He shocked us and made us laugh with his antics and wicked hair.
Yet he battled like a champ through more than we will ever know.. he got taken from his family, his babies and his fans.
Life is not always fair remember that as you read about D-Will and think of his highlights.. as he has so many.
Prayers and thoughts to his family and friends, and the numerous fans and teamates.
Cheers to you D-Will, thanks for taking the time to talk and message you know I always ended it with a smile…

Cheers to another amazing person taken from us all but most importantly one we can never forget…Miss you dexter.

Darrent was a great corner back. It is such a shame to see something like this. I still can’t quite accept it. I keep looking into the 07 season and expecting him to suit up…even though we know that won’t happen now :(
He had a great personality and was a true warrior. A real inspiration to us all.
I only really started following the NFL fully last year and I always got excited to see D-Will on the field. Watching him is something I will truly miss.

If any-one from the Broncos organization reads this I would like to suggest that No. 27 be honoured in Darrent Williams’ name.
He had such a promising career especially under Champ Bailey he was sure to be worthy of such a honour sooner or later…if not already.
I think it would be a great way to honour a great player and to inspire his team-mates so his ‘fight till the end’ ways can live on through his great memory :)

Farewell Darrent, we will always love you and miss you dearly.

  94. 94 Carl Mordi Jan 2nd, 2007 at 1:52 pm

I am a high school cornerback and I looked up to Darrent Willams as an inspiration to because he like I was an undersized cornerback. But what he lacked in size he made up for his heart and determination. He carried himself with a swagger and a confidence that was so uniuqe and so special that anyone who watched him became enamoured with his ability. When I recived the news of his death my heart stopped because he he was an amazing player and even more a tremendous person who had a promising future. It just goes to show the ever cliche but true saying “The Good Die Young” is a sad truth in life. But he will not have died in vain because he will serve a reminder to me as to others that life is short and you have to make the best of it everyday. May God Bless the Williams family.

With All Due Respect, Carl Mordi

  95. 95 Hardy B Jan 2nd, 2007 at 2:55 pm

Darrent Williams was a class act, on and off the field. What he did for youth football leagues in Fort Worth goes to show you the kind of heart that he had. I’m 24 years old now, which is how old Darrent was when his life got cut short so tragically.

He had so much promise. His loss is huge for his family and friends, the Denver Broncos organization, as well as the city of Denver and the state of Colorado.

I never knew him personally, but his passing affected me very strongly. I will keep him and his family in my prayers. I know that he’s inspired quite a few people out there, and that’s something that no one will be able to take away from him.

  96. 96 Chris Jan 2nd, 2007 at 2:57 pm

Wow….i was shocked when i woke up, only to have my dad tell me that Darrent Williams had been shot dead. I looked up to him these past 2 years. I even wore number 24 for my high school team. I was hoping one day id get to meet the man that inspired me to go beyond what im capable of. Im saddened by his death, and i want to send all my condolences out to the Williams family. Im sorry for this tragic loss.

  98. 98 Andrew Jan 2nd, 2007 at 3:21 pm

Darrent and I were both born in Ft. Worth, Texas. I had heard about him a while back when an article was published in a newspaper about his efforts to keep kids away from gang activity. I don’t know if this is true or not, but I heard that in a few weeks he was going to go back to Ft. Worth to speak to kids about staying away from gangs. I really respect that. It shows amazing character and I am very astonished that he was killed in a drive-by shooting. That is a very, very sad irony. I think it’s really stupid for somebody to kill someone because they were arguing in a club. I know this may happen all the time to people, but like anybody else, Darrent didn’t deserve this in any way. My condolences go out to all of his family and friends and to the entire Denver Broncos Football Team.

Darrent was also #27, not #24. Champ Bailey is #24. (Chris)

Wow, I am distraught. A young guy like that, all the talent in the world, his whole life ahead of him, and to die so senselessly. Truly is a tragedy. I enjoyed watching Darrent play football. He and Champ were a fantastic team, one of the best secondaries in the NFL, without a doubt. I do believe it is important to understand that he was much more than a football player, that he was somebody’s loved one. He had a family, teammates and friends. For all of you I give my condolences. You all had someone special in your life, remember him for those good things, and remember that he gave all of us football fans a tremendout amount of entertainment every time he stepped on the field. I respected how he played, hard, tough and carefree. Like it was what he was meant to do. I’ll remember him for the passion, love and ability that he exhibited out there on the field. He played the game and lived life the way it should be done. Bless him and all of his fans, family and loved ones. RIP Darrent. You’ll definitely be remembered.

I am so so incredibly saddened to see that Darrent’s life was cut short by such a senseless act of violence. He was just a kid living his dream, he was an amazing athelete. Though I never met him, you could always see his personality shining through all he did. I hope that whoever was involved in this horrible crime is brought to swift justice for what was done to such an innocent person. My deepest sympathies to all who Darrent

  109. 109 Janelle Jan 2nd, 2007 at 6:14 pm

Darrent Williams was an unique individual who truly represented the game of professional football and genuinely appreciated the opportunity to play a game than many people will never get to play at that level. His attitude and love for football was infectious, as evidenced by everyone who ever had contact with him. He clearly was a positive force in the locker room and was a blast to watch on the field – such amazing promise and potential that will be sorely missed.

More importantly, Darrent was a beautiful person who lived life in the fullest, richest way possible – not monetarily, but rather full of zest and child-like innocence that we all could afford to live like. Always smiling and willing to help others – such optimism that you see in so few people nowadays. He lost his life in such a senseless manner, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Darrent was looking down at us and finding a way to see the silver lining in all this.

Here’s to you #27 – may your family, teammates, and tried-and-true orange and blue fans remember you always.

Darrent was an inspiration to all of the “little guys” in the world who are constantly told they can’t do something. Darrent showed he was not only able to be an NFL cornerback, but an elite NFL cornerback. I was happy to hear that he knew Christ and that I will someday get to play some football with him up in Heaven. You will always be remembered by true Bronco fans. Love and prayers to the Williams family and the Broncos Organization. I know how hard it is to lose a coworker you love and are close with. They are more like family than you realize. Have fun in heaven and we’ll see you someday soon, Darrent.

I don’t know why but I loved this guy the minute we drafted him. I live in Wyoming but was just a few blocks away with my 22 year old son when this happened.

All I can say is: man, hug your kids; look past your troubles and recognize just how valuable you are and your life is – every life is a gift and it’s easy to forget that sometimes.

Man. Jesus. Let’s all have mercy on the trigger man and vow to live life in grateful service for having life at all!

even though i live in philadelphia, the broncos are one of my favorite teams and Darrent was my favorite player on that team
people like Darrent were the reason i got into playing football when i didnt know whether i should play or not
but when i saw how much fun he and others had, i couldn’t turn away and decided to play
i have my deepest condolences for his family, and i hope for the best for his two children and the mother of those children

I have been a Oklahoma State fan my entire life. I always
took pride in any OSU player who made it. Darrent was
specail to me even though I never knew him. This tragic
ending to his life and the number of people it has touched
is proof of the life he lived. We will not forget. I will
not forget. I can’t even imagine what his family must be
going through. My prayers are with you.

  122. 122 Danielle Jan 2nd, 2007 at 9:50 pm

As a young fan of football I was shocked when I heard of this tradegy. He was one of the cornerbacks in the league who I thought and was one of the elite. His swagger and talent on the football team made me a fan of him (even though Im a steeler fan). When I heard the news my heart dropped. People often talk of the good old days were violence was not got on by petty rage. I wish the family of Darrent Williams comfort and I wish that the people responsible are caught and dealt with. Life is the greatest gift and when you take someones away God says murders don’t have a chance at eternal life therefore eternal damnation. The Williams family are in my prayers and you have my Deepest Condolences.

As someone who follows football religiously I find it hard to believe his life woudl be cut short this early. The kid had so much promise and was one of my favorite young players. RIP Darrent, you will be missed.

  124. 124 Tim Jan 2nd, 2007 at 10:05 pm

I’ve been a Broncos fan since I was a little kid. I love watching them play and I used to love watching my favorite player, Darrent Williams. There was nothing better than watching him and Champ Baily continue to be the best CB duo every sunday. Not only was Darrent an amazing football player and person, but he was a great hero to look up to. I’ll miss him, and remember everything I learned from him and my thoughts are with his team-mates, friends, and of couse the Williams family. I hope we can all learn from this tragedy and remember Darrent for the wonderful player, father and above all person he was. We will all miss you, rest in peace. – Tim from New Jersey

  125. 125 Tom Jan 2nd, 2007 at 11:33 pm

I grew up on the same block as Mike Shanahan as a kid and I got to be friends with his son, Kyle. So I feel close to the Broncos, and I’ve been a Broncos fan since I was a kid. I feel incredibly sad about Darrent’s death, almost like I lost a family member. I wish I could go down to Ft. Worth with the team this Saturday……

I think the Broncos should retire #27.

Rest in peace, Darrent. You will be missed.

I am not a broncos fan but I am a football fan who watched the broncos play a lot. Every time I watched them play I was impressed by Darrent Williams play, it seemed like he was always getting better. My heart goes out to Darrent’s family, friends, and teammates on their tragic loss. The NFL and especially the Broncos need to honor him.

  127. 127 Joe C. Jan 2nd, 2007 at 11:56 pm

I am a huge football fan and have always been impressed with Darrent Williams…he was so fun to watch and was already one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. Not only a great player but from hearing his teammates and coach talk he was a great person too. It’s sad to think that he was only 24 years old and just goes to show that anything can happen at anytime. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and everyone that knew him. Just a thought but I think that the NFL and Madden should honor him and put him on the cover of Madden 2008…this is the least they could do to honor a great person and athelete.

I am personaly sickened by what happened to Darrent. I hope no one on this site agrees with these cowards actions. I wish the family the best. I also hope that a witness will come forward in this matter so the family can atleast get SOME closure. In closing, I also hope that this is not what Denver is all about now, it is my home and I have always felt welcome in every part of the city.

  129. 129 Michelle Jan 3rd, 2007 at 12:02 am

We will miss Darrent! What a personality and player. He added such spark to the Broncos. What a tragic event! I will miss seeing #27:

  130. 130 Shelley Jan 3rd, 2007 at 1:03 am

My heart goes out to the family, friends, and fans of Darrent. Regardless of what happened at the night club, shooting was definetly not the way to react. It’s a horrible thing that this man had to lose his life due to the lack of “smarts” someone had. Hopefully this cold blooded murdered is found and prosecuted to the fullest. Good Luck to those left behind. Remember God has a reason for everything, as hard as it maybe for all to understand at this time. God Bless!

  131. 131 John Jan 3rd, 2007 at 1:14 am

I can’t express my feelings over this tragedy any better than Jim Rome did on his show today:

“Just hours after the Broncos finished their season with a disappointing loss to the 49’ers, Bronco DB Darrent Williams was gunned down in his limo early Monday morning. I’m usually the first guy to say, athletes have to make better choices, that nothing good ever happens in the middle of the night. But that’s not necessarily the case here.

Williams was a guy who was trying to do the right thing. He hired a limo so he wouldn’t have to drive after a late night. He was a young guy with two young kids of his own, a guy looking to establish a free football camp for youth players, a guy who wanted to talk to youngsters back home this off-season about steering clear of gangs. Clearly, this was a man trying to make a difference and he’s shot and killed in a drive-by after a verbal confrontation in a club? The whole thing is so unbelievably senseless. How does it get to this point? How is there that little respect for human life? Forget sports; is this really where we are as a society, a 24 year-old father of two, could get murdered because someone was disrespected or talking some junk in a club? Are people really getting killed over words? How did we ever get to this point? More importantly, what are we going to do about it?”

RIP Darrent, you were a great player, but more importantly, a great guy, and you will be missed.

When I first heard the news about Darrent I was stunned. I’m not a Broncos fan, but I am a Darrent William’s fan and will always be a Darrent William’s fan. It’s unfortunate to see little care for a human being that someone would shoot multiple times into a car innocent people in it. This has to stop somewhere.

Darrent, there will be justice served here. God bless to your family and kids. Darrent, you will always be a great person, player and man to me…RIP

  134. 134 Tim, London, England Jan 3rd, 2007 at 6:31 am

My thoughts go out to all those who knew Darrent personally, his family, particularly his children, his friends, his other “family” at the Broncos and all those who were touched by his spirit.

You were a good guy, and it’s a sad but true cliche that the good die young. I still can’t really believe it. I’m not even a Denver fan but you were such a character, such a great player that everyone in and around the NFL knew who you were and liked and respected you, and that feeling travelled around the world.

RIP, you will be sadly missed, often thought of and never forgotten.

  135. 135 angel Jan 3rd, 2007 at 6:44 am

I was really taken aback when I heard of Darrent Williams’ death. After just watching the game Sunday it felt as if we had all been touched by the death of sucha promising man.His future was aligned in front of him with promises of a bright and bountiful career.I am sure he will be deeply missed by his family and close friends but will also be greatly missed by us,his biggest fans.

  136. 136 Heather Jan 3rd, 2007 at 6:52 am

I was disappointed when I left the game on Sunday. Disappointed that the Broncos lost and their season was over. But one of my favorite plays that day came from Darrent Williams when he knocked a potential touchdown out of the hands of the 49′ers receiver in the South end zone. It was well-executed and I was so proud of him. I had no idea that that play would be my last memory of him. Darrent Williams was a fine man and an amazing talent on the football field. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, coaches and teammates.

Though we know not why events happen in life, the belief that our God is King, Ruler, and Judge of All things helps, heals and comfort our souls. God has granted the family with the strength to endure and sustain through this difficult time. May you continue to bless his name and we will see our loved ones again!

Darrent was one of my favorite DB’s in the N.F.L i admired his toughness and the fact that he was a little guy who made plays. My dream one day is to play in the N.F.L and i want to continue Dee’s carrer for him. I learned alot of techniques by just watching him, My inspiration is to make it to the league and make sure his name is never forgotten. I know i will never forget him, my regards go out to his mother and family. It’s sinceless he had to die that way, but he was religious man, so therefore he is watching over us in heaven. Unbelievable! Another talented, positive role-model for our children gone forever. What an excrutiating loss for his Mom (GOD bless you & hold you) his 2 daughters (may you always remember your father’s accomplishments)OSU alumni, teammates, coaches & faculty(may you continue to inspire young men like DWill) Bronco fans specifically, but ALL NFL fans, the people of Ft.Worth and the list goes on and on……….Darrent touched so many in his 24 years and would have been an exceptional player & person in the future. Locking up some coward who had the audacity to commit such a senseless crime will do very little to ease the pain felt by all today. I was fortunate to have seen #27 play in person just weeks ago and was amazed by his talent and hard-nosed play. He gave his all every down and inspired those around him. Having just come to grips with the loss of our own ( #40 , Pat Tillman , RIP ) I pray for the day when people are free to follow their dreams in PEACE. Why on earth would a country at war make war ON EACH OTHER every single day ?? Way too many haters out there, and people wonder why celebrities in all fields make themselves unavailable to the general public! May GOD hold you in the palm of His hand, Darrent. Rest In Eternal Peace, my brother.

When I woke that morning i turned on the TV and I heard Darrent Williams was shot and killed. It sent shivers through my body. He was an exceptional young football player. Its a real shame what happened to him. Its really hard to say things happen for a reason and that he is in a better place. This is a tough loss to the Denver Broncos and the entire National Football League. He will be greatly missed by all football fans and players and personel of the league.
    R.I.P Darrent Williams

  151. 151 Daniel Wolford Jan 3rd, 2007 at 8:07 pm

When i woke up that morning and heard the news i was confused because i had just watch him play the night before and thought it was a mistake. Then after hearing it over and over again it still didn’t seem to register to me that someone so young and full of life could lose their life so quickly. Darrent was always one of my favorite Broncos as he was a little guy in size but his hustle and heart more than made up for it. I am deeply saddend by this and cannot even imagine what his Kids, Mom, and all of his immediate family and the Broncos team must be going though. I never met Darrent but from what i have heard he was one hell of a person. He is surely in Heaven and maybe when those of us pass on we might get to see Darrent. RIP Darrent, you will be sorely missed by this earth as it is not as good a place without you.

It is a sad lesson in life when a young gifted young man is taken in a such a way. My condolences to the whole Williams’ family for their loss and especially to the kids left behind. I hope his death is not in vain and that people realize that violence hurts more people than the people it is intended for.

    thanks,
    Jim

  153. 153 Manuel Jan 3rd, 2007 at 11:10 pm

I had the wonderful opporunity of tracking Darrent William’s short but very exciting career due to fantasy football. I drafted him onto my team as a rookie because of his punt and kick return abiliites. It was always exciting to see how well he performed. By the end of the season I knew he was a cornerback with that special talent to stand out in the most competitive league in all of sports. his loss is truly difficult and my condolocences and deepest sympathies go to the entire Williams family. While this is certainly a nightmare for anyone who loved him, it is my sincerest hope that his loved ones can find comfort in the nation’s deep respect and admiration for this talented young man. Mrs. Williams, your son impacted so many people in only positive ways. He always always live on in our hearts and memories.

  155. 155 MIKE ALFREY Jan 4th, 2007 at 3:14 am

It is odd how the death of a great athlete such as Darrent Williams quickly puts our own lives into perspective. Us Broncos fans are infatuated, obssessed and would of liked nothing more than to have won another Super Bowlthis year. With that gone (and now in it’s proper perspective) we would want nothing more than Darrent to be back playing with the Broncos, talking to his friends, and enjoying his family. We will miss him. He will miss us. We will miss each other.

Good bye Darrent. YOU were good and would of only gotten better… now we are left to think of what could of been, mourn the loss of you and console each other in your absense. In the silence while our emotions are expressed about your death may each of us realize how important life is and how soon it can vanish.

My condolencences to the friends and family that realy knew Darrent. May God bring you thru this trying time. You are all in my prayers and thoughts. Sorry it happened.

  160. 160 Kim Tisdale Jan 4th, 2007 at 12:19 pm

On Darrents grave, there will be a dash. What is important is not what is before or after the dash, but what is between. It is the life he lead and the hearts he has touched that will be remembered by all. We can all sit back and say “why,” but it won’t get us anywhere, and to be honest I know why. God needed someone special, he needed Darrent. You know, we can’t see Darrent, feel Darrent, or hear Darrent, but I assure you…he is there. He is always there in spirit and in heart. Everytime that Bronco football whistle blows or the time clock begins, know…Darrent will be in the stands watching with his wings spread wide. God gave Darrent the ability to play football, and he ran with it. He was an amazing athlete, an amazing teammate, an amazing friend, but more importantly a great Christian. His smile was infectious and he had a heart of gold. Come next year when that football whistle first blows, the crowd chants, and the coaches and teammates bow their head to pray…you better bet that Darrent Williams will be there in the center of that huddle. His memory will live on forever and his fans will never forget the amazing athlete in which they call Darrent Williams. God Bless Darrent and God Bless the Williams family. He might not have won a superbowl or have won a Heisman, but he did win a fan. I know I am one of many people out there in this big world that we live in, but he inspired me. He touched my life and Darrent never even knew it. He inspires me to live my life for all that it is worth. I will live today to the fullest and be the best person I can be, because in the end, it is all about the dash in between. Rest in Peace Darrent and next year, I will see you in the stands.

May Darrent Williams rest peacefully. I didn’t know much about Darrent, because I’m not really much of a football fan. But I know that he was a very talented person, and a great father to his children. He was an inspiration to very many people, young and old. And he lived a great life, as young as he is. He will be remembered by all those that look up to him.

Oh my Goodness. Despite the time distance that has passed since this event, I still am in complete and utter shock.

My thoughts and praires are with the entire Denver Bronco’s team and the Williams’ family and relatives.

RIP #27. Still hard to believe that a good spirit was taken so early. You will be an inspiration to me and others forever.

  175. 175 Ashley Jan 6th, 2007 at 4:50 pm

My heart goes out to his daughter, his son, and all his friends and family. It is a shame that such a young soul with so much potential had to be taken so early. At least one can be reassured that he is in a good place right now.

    R.I.P and God Bless

I am a Raider fan from Colorado but am also a fan of sports figures who exemplify pride and leadership for our nation’s children. Someone that they can look up to. I believe that Mr. Williams did this. He will be missed by this Raider fan for that reason. My heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with his family during these very hard times.

Though I know absolutely nothing about football,I am so very sorry for the lost of Darrent Williams. The senseless crime is just that-SENSELESS. My thoughts and prayers goes out to the family, teammates, the entire NFL, and the fans. He will be dearly missed.

  178. 178 Mirna Jan 6th, 2007 at 11:30 pm

I am a football fan and I reside in Ontario, Canada. This story has whole-heartedly touched all of America, and when I say all-of America I mean North America too. Living near Toronto, a city with multiple tragic shootings of young people every year, it is heart breaking everytime there is a story like this. It hit hard down here, and I wanted to say that Canadians are deeply saddened with this tragedy also. This is another sad case of a mother losing a son and a little boy and little girl now having to grow up without a father. My deepest prayers go out to the Williams family, I hope his kids realize how special their father was and know he’ll be watching over them as they grow up without a father, just like he did.

  179. 179 Jon Jan 7th, 2007 at 12:15 am

I’m one of the biggest Bronco fans in my english class, in which we talk about the NFL. I would always mention the Broncos defense and Darrent’s name would always turn up. Every time I would play football with my friends after school I would picture myself being Darrent, because I’m not a tall guy. I’m About 5′5”. But that didnt stop me from playing with the big guys. Thanks to Darrent. I became my Pop Warner League MVP. 7 interceptions and a League best 45 tackles. Darrent was the best inspiration that any kid that feels like there’s no chance for him, can have. He will truly be missed. My God take him. He was something special

I am a Football fan who believes it will be an insult not to leave my thoughts about Darrent Williams. I believe that he was a great young player that still had much more to offer the NFL. Even though he was not a veteran of the NFL, he trully showed that he had the dedication and commitment to the game, and to his fellow teammates. I pray for his family, who I believe are going through a very hard time right now, and I wish that every day he could be remembered in the good times, not the bad ones….

  181. 181 R Glenn Jan 7th, 2007 at 3:18 am

With all appreciation and admiration, as a mother, Coloradan, and Bronco fam…rest in peace Darrent. Thank you for sharing YOU with us for such a short period of time…though, truly our pleasure.

  182. 182 Jerome Dumas Jan 7th, 2007 at 3:20 pm

Darrent you were a great football player, what happened to you was a tragedy and a shame. May you rest in peace, we will all see you again one day.

  183. 183 Steve Jan 7th, 2007 at 8:39 pm

I woke up the morning of the first and like I always do I pulled up NFL.com. It took me a second to register what I was reading. I was in total shock reading about Darrents death. The longer I sat at the computer, the more tears started to build up. I had a chance to meet Darrent several times in Sillwater after home games. Me and my wife could not wait to talk with Darrent and Tatum(Bell) after each game, they were are two favorite players to talk to because they would talk back with you. I am sadden by Darrents death and still can not belive he is gone physically, but know that his spirit is now with the lord looking down on us watching over his friends, family and teammates. May God Bless everyone who reads this and remember to pray for his family, friends, Tatum Bell and Javon Walker and the rest of the Denver Broncos.

i just want to say that it sickens me how some people have no respect for human life. darrent was an amazing player & person. its not fair that is life was cut so short. his family (espically his mother & two children), friends, & teammates are all in my prayers. may that beautiful soul rest in peace.

  185. 185 Dwayne Dibbley Jan 7th, 2007 at 11:44 pm

I pray that they find the perps so that this can be resolved and Darrent can rest in piece.

  186. 186 Robertson Jan 8th, 2007 at 12:30 am

I have been a Bronco fan ever since I was little and saw John Elway play. Darrent Williams was one of my fav. players, mainly because he was from Ft. Worth and I could relate to him, he had an enormous amount of talent. The other night I heard about a young athlete that had been shot. I overlooked it later on I watched csi that had a Drive By and I thought to myself, “Drive bys never happen anymore.”{{I feel horrible about it now}}. Then the next night on the news I heard about Darent, my heart sank. This has been bothering me ever since I found out. I am going to pray for the Williams Family, Denver Broncos, and everyone else involved in this tragedy. I am sorry.

  187. 187 L.R. Jan 8th, 2007 at 1:27 am

I followed Darrent’s short but amazing career in the NFL, ever since he was drafted. He was an inspiring player, with a heart big enough for the world to see. No words can express the hole that has been left now in all our hearts because of his loss. Time will heal the wound, but we will be left with the scar. In my heart, I will always carry his smile, his promise, his inspiration. My thoughts and prayers are with his family now – with his children. I hope you one day can take comfort in knowing how much your father impacted us all. You should be proud and remember he was wise beyond his years and God asked him to join Him above to guide over all of us with his gentle smile.

My prayers go out to the family and friends of the late Darrent Williams. I also am a huge fan of the Broncos but I also know how it is when you lose someone so close to you. The following Poem helped me cope when my grandmother passed away. I wish you all the best recovery and always remember the good times.

    In His Loving Arms
If You Could Only See Me Now
You’d Know My Face Is All Aglow
I’m Now Living In A Beautiful Land
Where The Wind So Gently Blows
When I Got My First Glimpse Of Heaven
It Was A Sight For My Eyes To Behold
Now I’m Walking Hand In Hand With Jesus
    Along The Streets Of Gold
You Have Placed All Hope In Jesus
That You Will See Me Once Again
Your Hope Is True It’s In The Cross
And In Jesus Nail Scarred Hand
There Will Be No More Tears Or Heartaches
Or Struggles Like I’ve Had Before
Because I’m Now Safe In The Arms Of Jesus
    Where I’ll Be Forever More
    In Loving Memory Of
    Darrent Williams

They say the good die young and from my understanding he was definatley a good person. It’s a shame that his children will have to grow up without a loving father. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of this wonderful young man. I’m a huge football fan and I had just watched the Broncos play on New Year’s Eve. I was devastated when I heard the news. Right now it’s hard for everyone to understand why things happen but we must always remember that GOD does things for a reason. It may take a while for us to understand but always remember that HE knows whats best for us. For the family, please continue to pray for strength and guidance and remember that GOD loves you and that he has NOT left you alone.

WELL I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE MY CONDOLENCE TO HIS FAMILY, WE WENT TO THE GAME ON NEW YEARS EVE. WE ARE FROM PUEBLO, I WANT TO SAY I LOVED WATCHING HIM HE WAS AND IS A GREAT PLAYER..HE WILL BE SADLY MISSED . WHO EVER DID THIS DESERVES THE WORST PUNISHMENT. MY SISTER WAS MURDERED 12 YEARS AGO, AND WE DO KNOW WHO KILLED HER BUT THE PERSON THAT DID IT DID NOT GET CHARGED WITH IT. HE HAS BEEN COVICTED WITH MURDER BEFORE AND ONLY DID LITTLE TIME.. SO I PRAY THE PERSON OR PERSONS THAT DID THIS WILL COME FORWARD AND STAND UP AND TAKE RESPONSEABILITY FOR THERE ACTIONS..BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER , JUDGEMENT DOES COME WHEN WE LEAVE THIS WORLD..THE LORD UP ABOVE KNOWS..ALL WE KNOW IS THE BRONCOS LOST A GREAT PLAYER AND A GREAT PERSON…DARRENT IS STILL WITH YOU ALL IN SPIRIT AND IN YOUR HEARTS. AND ALSO I PRAY FOR HIS TWO KIDS THAT HE LEAVES BEHIND, IT IS GOING TO BE A TOUGH ROAD AHEAD, BUT ALWAYS LET THEM KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THERE FATHER. WELL MY PRAYERS WILL ALWAYS GO OUT TO HIS FAMILY, MAY THE LORD BRING YOU COMFORT. AND MAY THE KILLER COME TO JUSTICE..

I thank Darrent Williams’s mother for bringing him into the world & making this world a better place for all of us. The way she feels is more than we can comprehend. I don’t even begin to know how she feels. I want to give her all the love I can at this time, & want her to know that I will be thinking about her alot.

  206. 206 Zac Jones Jan 9th, 2007 at 10:42 pm

I never met Darrent but was supposed to one weekend when I went home to Dallas. I didn’t make it to the spot but my friends did and they all had good things to say about Darrent. I think we all have lost friends or relatives to unnecessary violence or accidents. This supposedly was due to an argument over whatever. But it was not anything that warranted a man’s life. We as a people have been sucked into this sensless idea that a guns and gangs proves manhood. The white folks and foreigners look at us as animals and we are proving them right. I charge each MAN to refrain from being in places that they need not be in 2007. Lose the friends that you don’t need. If you have a wife and children, stay with them and enjoy life, and put God first in everything you do. My momma tought me that. I recently found that the club life is not for me and it has been through revelations from incidents like this one. I know that Darrent is in a better place and definitely had a purpose on this earth. He will not be the last brother that gets taken away from us in this matter. All we can do is learn and listen and be resposible human beings. I’m tired of this stuff happeneing. I really am.

  207. 207 Jeff Jan 9th, 2007 at 11:31 pm

I was stunned to hear the news. I was on vacation and heard from another person that a Denver Bronco defensive back had been killed. When I learned it was Darrent I was surprised. I only heard great things about him. I am not a Denver fan but something about Darrent really made me like him so much ever since I saw him play. Because of him I actually started to like the Broncos. He just seemed to enjoy the game. I will miss watching him out on the field. My deepest sympathies go out to his family.

I am saddened to hear that one of the best DBs in the NFL was harmed for no reason by some idiot. Some of the things people do today is just unbelievable. Darrent is a great player and he always showed a lot of class as a professional and a person. What happened was ridiculous and it wasn’t Darrent’s fault at all, he just wanted to go to his friend’s birthday party and some maniac shot him for no reason. There just is no reason to ever hurt anyone but today we are still dealing with saddening incidents like this one. It’s just so hard to know what to do when things like these just keep happening and it just makes you wonder about you and your family’s safety when people are so sadistic and stupid. I still honestly believe though that Darrent is in a better place now and maybe we can find some peace knowing that he won’t have to worry about something like this ever happening again.

  212. 212 Raymond Martinez Jan 10th, 2007 at 2:56 pm

Man, oh man….where do I begin? I could start by stating the obvious, the hurt, the saddness, the anger. Well, I won’t. I refuse. I instead will take this time to remember a great day in my lifelong dedication to the Denver Broncos and now, D-Will. I attended the Redskins-Bronco game last year and if anyone can recall, it was a cold one rain, snow, the whole bit. Why talk about this game particularly you ask? I’ll tell you. After long hours of tailgating and getting primed for a nationally televised game, I watched our Broncos give it there all and close out with a victory but, this is whats important to me. As I was sitting stiff in my chair, I many times wanted to get up and watch from the concourse. Instead, I sat, cheered and watched what in my eyes was a great great win. As the game ended, I made my way to the players tunnel and gave my support and last cheers. To my suprise I look up and as if it was in slow motion, I see a players game glove in the air in front of me, as if it was floating. As if you have to ask, it was D-Will’s. My point being, I second guessed myself as to why I stood in the elements to watch this game and, as I caught this glove I was like “swwweeetttt”. What was a little gesture for D-Will, was like a thank you for me. It was like he was saying “thanks for staying, here ya go”. Now he’s left us and I think back, right on man, thanks for making me feel appreciated. Even though he did’nt even know me. I can only imagine if I did, WOW. So, not only did I watch a great game but left with a little momento that means so much more to me now. Thank you D-will for a great, great memory man.

God. Why? Thats all i can really say. This may seem like just another “I miss you Darrent” from another fan. I knew him. I knew him as more then a player, I knew him as a person. I met him back in his freshmen year in college when he came to my school in OK. I talked to him and got to know him. I got to the point where I was pretty good friends with him. For me to find out that he was shot and killed on the news, just broke my heart. I litterally broke down and cried for an hour. I couldn’t believe it. Watching the funeral and seeing all the people pass by his casket and watch them all cry made me cry even harder. Watching Tatem Bell break down in front of thousands of people broke my heart as well. I just want everyone to know how great of a person Darrent really was. He was the nicest guys you could ever ask to meet. I will never forget you Darrent!! Thank you for being such an awesome friend to me! I LOVE YOU DARRENT!!! REST IN PEACE!!!!!

  217. 217 Jessica Martinez Jan 11th, 2007 at 1:39 pm

First I have to say how sad I am about this tradgety. I am still crying to this day. I didn’t know Darrent personally, but I wish I did. From what Mike Shannahan has shared about him, he made him seem like he was full of life and a happy go lucky guy. I just keep asking myself, ” What are we going to do?” I really don’t know right now? I just can’t stop thinking about the pain his family is going through, including his teamates. I pray every night that he didn’t suffer. I am a hard core Denver Fan as is my husband. We live in Pueblo about 2 hours away from Denver. I just want to say that I know how it feels to lose someone very close to you. I lost my dad when I was 16 years old and it wasn’t easy. To lose a child is an uncomprimisable thought. I just want the whole Denver organization and the Williams family to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We really are going to miss his intensity and his beautiful smile. Don’t worry the pain will ease and you will be able to remember him and smile instead of cry. I really hope that you guys do something for the fans because he was as much apart of our lives as he was in yours. May the killer be found, for the sake of Darrent. Darrent as a tribute to you we will be wearing your jersey all next season. We love you Darrent and you will forever be missed and you will never be forgotten. RIP We love you Forever!

I remember when he got drafted some of the fans questioned the pick due to his size. I was pysched over the pick becuase when he said “I like to come up and hit and make my presence to be felt” I knew he was gonna be an upcoming star and its unfortunate he could not reach his prime. I am not looking forward to next season its gonna be hard to watch every game and not see #27 playing with all his heart. He has been my favorite Bronco player ever since his first game. Best of wishes to his family, friends, teammates, and fans

D WAS A GREAT FRIEND TO ME THAT ALWAYS KEPT ME FOCUSED! I MET HIM AT MY BOY CHAMP’S HOUSE ABOUT A YEAR AND HALF AGO. SINCE THAT MEETING WE SPOKE ON THE PHONE ALMOST EVERYDAY…TALKING BOUT LIFE AND PAPER CHASING. I AM VERY HURT THAT SOMEONE WOULD TAKE HIM AWAY FROM ALL OF THE PEOPLE THAT LOVED AND ADORED HIM. BUT I TRUST AND BELEIVE THAT D IS IN A BETTER PLACE! TO THE PERSON THAT TOOK HIM…..NO HARSH WORDS FROM ME BUT KNOW THAT YOU MUST FACE GOD FOR THE UGLY THAT YOU DID.

D…..I KNOWN YOU ARE LISTENING….I LOVE YOU AND WILL NEVER FORGET YOU BABE! MAY YOU REST IN PEACE. LOVE ALWAYS BONZEE BABY

  234. 234 Matthew Hood Jan 13th, 2007 at 10:13 pm

From the day they selected him as the selected second round pick from Oklahoma State to his final game, which I was at, against the 49ers; Darrent was a great athlete that I personlly beleive would of one day day be a top conerback. But most impotanly he was a great man who always worked hard on and off the field. Not to mention that he was a great man who had a loving family that he cherished dearly. The Broncos can replace the cornerback, but they can’t replace the player who took to the field every Sunday with pride and dignity, the player that every teammate enjoyed in the locker room, the field, and on an ordinary day, and the playerthat every Bronco faithful loved watching not just by his skills but integerity. So to Darrent Williams, I Hope your’re in a better place and let your soul rest in peace.

  235. 235 Kyle Jan 14th, 2007 at 1:29 pm

hi im kyle, i just wanted to say that darrent williams in my mind was the greatest cornerback in the NFL, god certainly took a very special person in Darrent. Although we all wish that he was still with us on earth, he is in a better place now, heaven. I give all of my wishes to the family and friends of Darrent.

    Rest In Peace

I find it troubling that you are running eBay ads on this blog memorial. In someways it is sickening as I see you ads on Google and it appears those of us that understand search marketing and blogs that you are arbitraging clicks on this senseless killing.

I hope Darrent is resting with the good lord and finds it in himself to excuse your insincerity.

  248. 248 Craig Jan 16th, 2007 at 4:04 am

On the field he made things happen with his ability. Darrent had blazing speed, and electric moves. It was those sensational punt returns and his spectacular plays on defense that made him a great player. But Darrent was more then just a Football player. He was a guy that had a huge heart, and a great personality. He lit up the room like no other. I will always remember #27 for his on the field and off the field heroics.

I am a big Falcons fan but i loved watching Darrent Williams play. I love is style and his smile. I cannot believe someone would just kill an innocent young man for no reason. I will always remember #27 and the way he played football, he is truly missed.

I am a British fan of the NFL, and a Jets supporter. I can’t believe how bad I felt when I read about it on the NFL site. It really shocked me. He will be truly missed, by the Broncos and by everybody connected with him. R.I.P Darrent.

  255. 255 Derron Vansnick Jan 17th, 2007 at 4:40 pm

I’m a big Broncos Fan, It was hard to believe what happened to Darrent. My Thoughts go out to Darrents Family , and The Denver Broncos especially Javon Walker, I can’t imagine what he’s going through, just hang in there Javon. The last time I saw Darrent was when I went to the game in San Diego and my last moment of Darrent was him and Champ Bailey giving each other high fives and the smile he had on his face even though they lost that game.

  256. 256 Audrey M. Jan 17th, 2007 at 8:36 pm

I may be only a kid but I was there in front of the t.v. when Darrent was picked to play for the team I’ve fallowed since I was about 6. Me and my entire family will miss he and I am sorry for the Williams loss.

  257. 257 Cory Jan 18th, 2007 at 12:52 am

How do you put into words the pain and loss of this horrible death, the death of a person who had so much promise and hope? Darrent was an energetic, happy, skilled young man with whom brought so much joy into living rooms every Sunday. My thoughts and prayers go out to his children and all of his family members. Rejoice in the memories of this wonderful person.

I’m Just Hurt, and Sad. Its only been a couple of weeks but this incident has bothered me since it happend. Me and Darrent are the same age, and when this happened it just made me respect and appreciate my life a little bit more. I truly believe they will get who they need to get. I will always remember Darrent even though I didn’t know of him. A innocent life gone for no reason. That’s what bothers me the most. May God Bless the williams family and may god have mercy on our generation.

  260. 260 Jane Oloyo Jan 18th, 2007 at 6:30 pm

This is so sad :( This young gentleman worked practically all his life to become a professional football player, all to let it go. This is the true meaning of a GREAT DEPRESSION. He certainly won’t be forgotten and that is a fact!!!

PS: God bless Darrent Williams, as well as his family!!!!!

  261. 261 Jordan Z. Jan 18th, 2007 at 7:43 pm

Darrent Williams was a good person and did not deserve to leave us like this. Our blessings are with him and we all admire the work he has done to get to where he was and then had it all spoiled by being at the wrong place at the wrong time. He was and will stay a good person and friend to us all.

  264. 264 RJones Jan 19th, 2007 at 12:09 pm

My heart goes out to his 2 children who no longer have a daddy.
We need to focus on his children now and help them along the way.
They have no idea why their daddy is gone. The person that did the shooting is a coward and justice will prevail. God is still on the throne and he takes care of his own. God bless his children and his girlfriend who stuck by him through it all!

  265. 265 Connor Jan 19th, 2007 at 7:10 pm

TIM You faggot, this isn’t for this type of things, if you can’t be sincere about someone’s death, you deserve to die. The chargers nor the broncos matter at this point, he was a great man, and I’m sure he’s in a better place.

I remember waking up that monday morning and reading that news and i was devastated. I wasnt really a broncos fan, but i have always liked Darrent Williams. One of my friends had met Darrent and said he was a awesome human being. I was so saddened when i read that he passed away. My thoughts and prayers go out to Darrent’s friends and family. I hope that Darrent’s killer would be found and brought to justice.

Its always hard when a life is taken, but we must keep in mind that that special person is in a better place. God has a plan for all of us. We will not wake up to a good day all the time. Darrent Williams was a special person with a great talent. Right now he is probably playing football with God in Heaven. I send my condolences to his family, fans, the NFL, and his friends. RIP

  270. 270 Danny Jan 20th, 2007 at 8:43 pm

Darrent was taken from us far too early in life. He did what he loved to do and embodied the highest qualities you could ever ask for in a person. Our thoughts go out to Darrent’s family, friends and teammates. He may be gone but his memory will live on.

  271. 271 Zachary Lange Jan 21st, 2007 at 11:17 pm

I wish none of this would have happend, Darrent became my favorite player for the Broncos. The first time i seen him run with the ball or even without the ball in his hands i thought to myself “This guy is goin places!” and now he has gone to a place that he shouldn’t have been going to for a long time.

I think if Darrent wouldn’t have passed away(R.I.P.) he would have became a very good CB not that he wasn’t good but i almost know for a fact he would have broken MANY MANY records.

    Rest In Piece Darrent Williams

  272. 272 Jesse Burris Jan 22nd, 2007 at 10:37 am

What can you say about this that makes it better? What can you do to try and move forward and look to the future? You can’t! All I can remember is watching him play and seeing that big smile on his face on Sundays. The energy he played with. The enthusiasm he showed in his life. All will miss D-Will. I want to commend the Denver Bronco organization for the way they handled this tragic situation. They acted with the utmost professionalism and dignity. They rallied around the family and helped in a grieving process that many people have yet to experience in their lives. I have all the faith in my brothers in the Denver Police Department to catch the individuals that are responsible for this senseless act. I would hope that one day D-Wills family would have the courage to be able to confront the person or persons responsible. My heart-felt sympathy goes out to the entire D-Will family, Denver Bronco organization (especially Javon Walker, you did not cause this and you are not to blame.), and all Denver Bronco fans around the country.

D-Will rest in piece. You will be missed, but not forgotten and Sundays will not be the same without you.

    Respectfully Submitted,

i feel bad for darrents family and friends may he rest in peace

  277. 277 LFR Reyes Feb 11th, 2007 at 11:00 pm

First of all I wish the best for Darrent’s children and his wife. As well as his close friends who have to suffer because of such an untimely death. I pray that God is by their sides and if they don’t believe in God that they find some form of council during these delicate times.

When I first found out about this it really moved me to tears. And today reading a good amount of what people have written on here, I was again moved to tears, once again, more than a month after this tragedy. I began to think of the cause for all of this and I couldn’t help but picture what happened that night.

I realized that the tragedy wasn’t just in Darrent’s death, but also in all the innocent who are killed in gang related violence that not everyone hears about and/or knows about.

I felt so terrible thinking about how incredibly senseless these gangs are and how they have ended so many lives. And I just wanted to say that all those kids growing up “reppin” gangs and thinking they’re all big and bad that they’ll eventually just end up killing someone or being killed. It’s such a shame that all the big time rappers these days are flaunting their “gangsta-ness” and portraying being a “gangsta” as something to be proud of, when it really isn’t.

Tragedies like this one, among many many other lesser-known cases showcase the evil brewed by these gangs. I pray and hope for a swift justice as many other have declared. And that some day all of this gang violence can just end. It truly has to stop. How many more people have to die???

RIP Darrent Williams, Much love to all your family.

This type of thing happens all the time but yet it seems that nobody seems to care. I wish that people would take note that young African American men, like myself, are being killed all the time and something needs to be done about it.

  279. 279 mr t Feb 25th, 2007 at 4:19 am

I heard this news at 12 o clock British Time so about 7-8 am american time and was shocked. Why would someone kill a star that did nothing wrong. Sorry if this offends anyone but America has a lot of Gun Crime. More than britain so the murder had an urge to kill. no real reason at all. I would like It if God sticks by his family and we all pray for them. also when i hear this fellow play damien nash Died after playing a charity basketball match. so we musr pray for his family as well.

I knew Darrent when he was a true freshmen at O.S.U. Darrent was so confident in his abilities, which proved to take him to greater things. Of the short time he was on this earth we should celebrate his life and accomplishments. Even though a piece of us has died with him, understand the pain is only on our end. He is now able to do all the things he loves to do and is rejoicing with the Lord. Darrent, I appreciate you so much, you have helped me in so many ways that only you know now. I thank you for just being you and will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers and thoughts. May GOD continue to bless you and your family.

  282. 282 CJ Fink Mar 16th, 2007 at 8:06 pm

First off, i would like to hope the bets for the Denver Broncos next season, they need to have a sticker on their helmets that has a 27 & DW. Any family members of Darrent Wailliams reading this i would like to wish the best of the future, even though i know it’s been 2 months & 15 days.

I never really got to watch him play because i live in Massillon Ohio, so i got to watch them beat the Cleveland Browns. I shouldn’t really say i never get to see him play because i would watch games on NFL Network. He was an amazing piece of talent for that defense, he was somethin else on Kick & Punt Returns, it’s so sad that someone would just kill him…someone so innocent, was shot to death.

I send my condolences to His Wife & Kids & his whole family & that he’s in my prayers every single night i go to bed & wake up,

    RIP D-Will,

I am a Black Man who has personally lost my two youngest sons one at age 22 and the other at the age of 25 due to gun violence. I did not know Darrent at all but, I am very saddened to read about another young Black Man’s life being snuffed out. I am lost for words on how much it pains my heart to see my brothers dying so young. Please Dear God help our people no one else is!!! We are still the last to eat from the table of plenty.

Dear Family and Friends of Darrent Williams,

I know it’s almost been a year, and I’m not shockingly still mourning over the loss. His spunk and pas for life would just light up a room. Although I never got to see him, I feel that a part of me knows him like a brother. My mom always told me that she can see me at Darrent’s age having the same spunk. I can honestly tell you I feel the Denver Broncos defense hasn’t been as good, because they miss the spunky player. I pray every night that someone can figure out how to bring someone back to life, because I really miss Darrent. Lots of Love!!

I miss you sooo much Darrent…

I will never forget that night/morning. I remember it like it was yesterday, I remember when I got the news at around 3am and calling every news station in Denver hoping it was not true. I remember not being able to damn near walk because it felt like they had taken apart of me away and we were just friends. I still have your last texts to me, your last myspace messages even though they say “profile no longer exsist” I can not delete them. I can not even take your phone number out of my celly because it’s so hard to believe. You will always have a place in my heart and tell my granny I love and miss her too.

Ms. Williams I know personally how much he loved and appreciated you being his mother. I know the hurt I feel is not even compared to the pain you feel. My heart truly goes out to you and your family.

Tierra(sp?)I personally didn’t know you all were still a couple…but I will admit it does explain a lot in certain situations now. I am sorry for the loss of the father of your children. Do not allow any of the stories to even make you wonder whether or not if he still loved you….girl we all been there and just know YOU WERE #1 and chopp it up to guys will be guys but you held his heart and don’t let some of these lying skanks tell you any different with these outlandish stories! I am sure he is with you and your children and my heart truly goes out to you as well.

    Regards,

    Somebody in Denver :-)

I am a Chiefs fan. After the 49ers beat the Broncos in the last game of the season, I was screaming in joy. The next morning I woke up, turned on Sportscenter and found out my favorite Broncos player died last night. I’ll admit, I cried most of that day. I could’ve cared less that the Chiefs got in the playoffs. I know you guys probably think I’m saying he was my favorite player just because this is a tribute site to him. You can think whatever you want, I do not care. Everytime the Chiefs played Denver in 07′, I couldn’t root against the Broncos. Darrent Williams was one of the best CB’s I’ve seen play, and I’ve seen alot. He had 6 interceptions, 2 for TD’s in only 2 years. That’s good in my opinion. I remember Draft Day 05′, hearing his name being called out in the 2nd round. D-Will was one of those players that was not a show-off. He didn’t act like Shawne Merriman after every big play. He wouldn’t rub it in the other teams face. He just went out there and did his job, which is what most NFL players should do, not worry about fuckin’ contracts. Darrent, R.I.P. buddy. Wish you were still here, but I guess heaven needed a CB. Love Ya Man, God Bless.

D-will will be and will always be in the heart of not only denver fans but NFL fans all over the world. Invesco field is not the same without D-Will, D-WIll and Sean Taylor will forever be remembered. I hope that whoever is responsible will be punished and not only sought after but forever remorseful for what they did to a innocent man. R.I.P to Williams and Taylor.

Hey the family of Darrent Williams! I feel really sorry about the death of Darrent Willians. I only knew him for two years while watching the Denver Broncos. I loved him so much. I would have loved to meet him. But I never got a chance. Darrent was a wonderful influence on young kids. I was 16 at the tim of his death. I was just about to turn 17.

    Darrent,
We will really miss you. You are a great loss to this world. I wanted you to know that you were a great person and a wonderful influence on me. R.I.P.

RIP Darrent Williams we will miss u dearly.U was a great cornerback & a great person. It shocked me when I watched NFL Total Access, and they said “Darrent Williams cornerback for the Denver Broncos” was shot & killed on January 1, 2007.I watched his last game when the Broncos played against the 49ers & he almost ran back a punt return.I never thought that would be my last time or anybody’s last time see u.U can never be replaced.WE LOVE U & WE MISS U!!!!

I just watched a segment on NFL network about the work that was started by Darrent and continues with the Boys and Girls Club. He was taken from this earth way too soon but his legacy will live on. Hopefully someday the violence that is taking too many of our young people will end. Rest in peace Darrent.

The event was really breathing taking. At times I almost came to tears, but to know that positive outcomes such as youth centers and more will carry your name it shows how amazing you were and will be in this world we live in. Your life ended early but said to say it will strengthen others. Man love you!

I´m from Germany and I´m a big Broncos fan since a long time. I would like to say that I can not forget what a nice person D. Williams was.
He will always be in my heart. I ask the lord often why that happened?

  353. 353 Nancy Rios Oct 21st, 2008 at 4:00 pm

    Dear Rosalind Williams,
Hey…my name is Nancy Rios. I am 13 years old and am a big fan of the Denver Broncos. I am a fan of your son Darrent Williams. I want to show you my feelings about your son. First thing is that I am so sorry for your son’s death even though it has been 2 years, but it is hard to know that he’s gone. But I know that he’s in a better place in heaven. Your son was a good player. I enjoyed watching him on TV. I am sorry for his kids that they just lost the best dad ever. The second thing is that he was one of the nicest guys ever. I enjoyed everything he did for the team like he would always make the other player fumble and take the ball to score and he would always have a big smile. If he was doing something bad in the game, I would not care because I know that he tried and did his best. The last thing about my feelings is that I can’t believe it. It went so fast that I think it’s just a dream. I am just happy that they found the guy. Well, these were the things that I feel for your son. I hope you can write me back.

    Sincerely,
    Nancy Rios

P.S. I hope that everything goes well in your life and I am sorry for the loss.

  354. 354 JULIAN WATKINS Oct 25th, 2008 at 9:00 pm

    Nancy,

It was really great to get your letter. Thank you for keeping me and my family in your thoughts and for helping to keep the memory of my son, Darrent “D Will” Williams alive. Yes, these past two years have been difficult but knowing the person who is responsible is off the streets is indeed a comfort. Like you, I miss seeing “D” play and I miss that megawatt smile but I know that he is in a better place and that he is watching over us all.

The Darrent Williams Foundation has been formed to insure that his memory and legacy lives on and that we continue to help improve the lives of children not only in Denver but Fort Worth, Texas, his hometown.

The entire Williams Family appreciates the love and kindness we have been shown and I hope you continue to be a beacon of light for your family and that you go far in life.

    Please keep in touch!!!

    Much love and appreciation…Rosalind Williams

  355. 355 Misha Nov 2nd, 2008 at 8:33 pm

    To Darrent’s Family,

My thoughts have been with you for the past 18 months. I’m originally from Boulder, Colorado, but grew up in California. I have been a Broncos fan my whole life. What Darrent contributed to the team is irreplaceable. He had a great game, and seemed to be a great all around guy. I wish there was something I could say to take away the tragedy you’ve encountered.
I’m thankful that they have finally got the guy that did this to him and your family. All of us fans feel relieved as well. I know you lost your son, dad, brother. We all lost a “legend.”

Take care, your in my thoughts and I’ll be watching as they put this guy away for life.

    With love,
    Misha

Dr Mrs.Rosalind Williams, first off I want to express my grief of the loss of your son Darrent. D was a favorite player of mine and for the last 2 years I have thought about him on countless occasions. I was devastated when he was killed and it really shook me up. I felt a special connection with Darrent. I was at his last game, and was there in attendance when you and Damiens wife came on the field last year. I really Don’t Know what to say…!
But i will let you guys know that i am so hurt by the way Darrent had to pass..! =(
This last year my Grandma Irene passed she was 64 and boy did she love those Broncos…! Everywhere we would go she would be yelling at all those Raiders fans trying to talk stuff about her team. She wouldn’t let one person say anything about her favorite team.
I was never a big bronco fan up untill she pass on may 22 o7, i mean i knew that was team i would go for and i would stick up for them but this year everyone knows me at school as the biggest Bronco Fan EVER…! I record all of the games and watch them.Nobody talks Crap bout my Broncos especialy No raider fans….!I watched all of the Tribute videos and man i can’t tell you how long i cried. I know that my Grandma and Darrent is up there talking away at least i hope so! I am so sorry for your loss..!
    FOR EVER DENVER BRONCOS….!!!!!!

I’m writing on behalf of The Darrent Williams Foundation. We will be holding a Candlelight Vigil at Laurel Land Memorial Park, in honor of Fort Worth native and Denver Broncos Corner back, Darrent Williams.

You may remember that Darrent was slain in the early morning hours on January 1, 2007 after leaving a New Year’s Celebration in Denver. The Foundation is taking this opportunity to remember his life and to promote his dreams of helping the youth in our community.

The vigil will begin at PM on Wednesday, December 31st and the cemetery is located at 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, 76134

I have Darrent’s pic on my phone and desk and I look at them daily to remind me to approach every day with enthusiasm. So many people just go through the motions and get wrapped up in the stuff that, in the end, doesn’t matter. Darrent’s story has inspired me to have fun and appreciate life. I wanted you to know this.

  369. 369 Candi Apr 10th, 2009 at 11:42 pm

Even though it’s been two years and I didn’t know Darrent; I often think of him and the way he died. Each time I see a white, stretched limo; I think of him. I will continue to pray for his family!

Im am the biggest Bronco fan in the world. I was home on leave during that tragic time. I was watching the game they just played. I remember Darrent had a heck of a game making big plays as usual. When I herd that he was shot and killed I cried. He was an outstanding player and a wonderful influence on the Denver community. The very next day to immortalize Darrent I went and had his name tattoed on me underneath my broncos tattoo. I will never forget #27 Darrent Williams.

I meet Darrent Williams at the 2006 Denver Broncos Fan fair, i was in the line to get a photo taken with him. With just spending a few minutes talking to him, he was laid back and had a positive outlook, i thought he was the coolest guy I have ever meet. Having meet him, i feel he had changed my life, because of who he was and what he had accomplished in his life, even tho his size could have hindered that dream. He will live in our hearts forever…

    R.I.P. #27 Darrent Williams

You will be missed on the field…

Although so many of us never got to know Darrent on a personal level his short life touched us all. I just wanted to let his family know that although he is gone his legacy will always live. We will never forget and because of that a piece of him will always remain. The family is forever in our prayers.

  377. 377 Drew Jul 31st, 2009 at 5:12 pm

Easily one of the best Broncos players to ever sign and play in Denver. It was an honor to watch such a young player become such a great asset to the best organization on the planet. As we start another season I will continue to hold you in my memories Darrent! Your legacy will continue and you will never be forgotten.

    #27 Darrent Williams – Forever a BRONCO!

I want to share a story with you….My son Devon is 9 years old and is now starting his fourth season of football. From the time he started playing, he has always worn the number 20. This year he told me that he wanted to change his number to 27. When I asked him why, he said that he wanted to “REPRESENT” Darrent Williams, he wanted him to know that he had not forgotten him….I am very sad to say that I did not know much about Darrent, but it is apparent to me that he made a strong impact on my son. When Darrent was killed my son Devon was almost 7. I remember him crying for a week after finding out the news…..It was a very hard thing for him to understand. I am thrown back by how connected my son feels to someone he has never met….but he must have really been a great man! Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with his family…..

Still miss # 24. Got the pleasure to meet him at the Bronco Christmas
party a month before the tragic night. He was so shy and humble. YOu could tell how sweet he was from a few moments.

We proudly display your picture in our Bronco house along with Elway, TD, Rod, Lynch and Bailey.

YOu are still missed and God bless your memory for what it has done to the Boys and Girls at the club here in Denver!

Thought about you today. I usually wear a Darrent Williams #27 jersey on game days, and for some reason while watching the game today I suddenly was sad about you missing these good times for the Broncos and knowing how much of an impact you would have had on the team, your friends, your family, and at-risk youth in the community. You did much in your short 24 years to make a difference, and you are still greatly missed.

Thought about him today…actually i think about him everyday…he is forever in my heart and I think if everyone just took one moment and stepped back and thought about how great of a person he was…the U.S would be a greater country. A shame too see a young man go like that especially him who had a promising future. R.I.P D-Will #27 and Damien Nash #29…never forgotten. Broncos forever
